چکیده

Hypothermia, defined as a core body temperature of ,35.0°C (,95.0°F), is a life-threatening and emergency situation. Various conditions and diseases can cause hypothermia, including environmental exposure, drug intoxication, CNS diseases, and metabolic abnormalities, such as hypopituitarism, hypoadrenalism, hypothyroidism, and hypoglycemia. Leucine-rich glioma-inactivated 1 (LGI1) antibody– associated encephalitis is an autoimmune-mediated encephalitis in which autoantibodies are directed against a voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC) complex protein named LGI1. The LGI1 protein is widely expressed in the neurons of the CNS and also in the hypothalamus. Central hypothermia associated with autoimmune-mediated encephalitis is rare; however, it is a potentially life-threatening symptom of encephalitis. Here, we describe a patient who experienced repeated hypothermic attacks associated with anti–LGI1 encephalitis.

O18: Autoimmune Encephalitis (Pathophysiology, Clinical Signs and Diagnos Tic Tests)

Autoimmune encephalitis is a difficult clinical diagnosis due to the similarities in the clinical, imaging and laboratory findings of many forms of autoimmune and infectious encephalitis. Autoimmune encephalitis involves several types: The first group includes the classic paraneoplastic disorders associated with antibodies to intracellular antigens. The second group involves autoanti...

Leucine-rich glioma-inactivated protein 1 antibody encephalitis

OBJECTIVE To describe a case of leucine-rich glioma-inactivated protein 1 (LGI1) antibody-associated encephalitis. METHODS The clinical and ancillary data and brain MRIs were gathered retrospectively by chart review. Relevant literature on similar cases was also reviewed. RESULTS The diagnosis of LGI1 antibody-associated autoimmune encephalitis was based on the typical clinical presentation...

O 16: Challenge in Diagnosis and Management of Autoimmune Encephalitis

The first description of an autoimmune encephalitis dates back to 1888, when Hermann Oppenheim described a patient with neurological symptoms but no underlying brain pathology. The field of autoimmune encephalitides associated with antibodies targeting cell-surface antigens is rapidly expanding and new antibodies are discovered frequently. Autoimmune encephalitis is a difficult clinical diagnos...

Delayed LGI1 seropositivity in voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC)-complex antibody limbic encephalitis

We utilise a clinical case to highlight why exclusion of voltage-gated potassium channel (VGKC)-complex autoantibody testing in serological evaluation of patients may delay or miss the diagnosis. A 68-year-old man presented with increasing involuntary movements consistent with faciobrachial dystonic seizures (FBDS). Initial evaluation demonstrated VGKC antibody seropositivity with leucine-rich ...

Pearls & Oy-sters: Limbic encephalitis associated with positive anti-LGI1 and antithyroid antibodies.

PEARLS Limbic encephalitis is an inflammatory condition of the brain, often characterized by the subacute onset of short-term memory loss, disorientation, seizures, behavioral disturbance, and psychiatric symptoms. Besides paraneoplastic syndromes with onconeural antibodies targeted against intracellular neuronal antigens, limbic encephalitis may also arise from nonparaneoplastic mechanisms wit...
